Port Chalmers Yacht Club

Port Chalmers Yacht Club is a friendly local club which encourages participation by all yachties, both racing and cruising.

Three Farr 6000s with spinnakers on a bright sunny day on Otago harbour

The Clubhouse is adjacent to the public boat ramp at Back Beach, Port Chalmers; and all are welcome to join us either on the water or at the clubhouse.

Racing is usually conducted on the lower Otago Harbour in great sailing waters only a few minutes sailing from the clubhouse. There are many vantage points from which to watch the racing, and interested spectators can often get afloat to see the action up close. Or if you prefer just relax on the lawn & wait for the fleet to return.

The club has a long and proud history, having been established in 1892. Weve had our share of national champs in various classes over the years - including the inaugural (1921) Sanders Cup, and we still regularly host championship events. But day-to-day our focus is on local events for which the winner's reward is to get their name on the blackboard at the end of the day, and a quiet beer to celebrate.

If you'd like to come sailing with us, there are usually places available. You can ring first (Clubhouse 03 472 7081), or simply turn up at the clubhouse on race day. Arrive an hour or so before start time & make yourself known. When we're racing to the Landfall Tower, the clubhouse may not be attended until after the race, as the start is usually from the shore at Careys Bay.
